Step 6: Recognize

Track Progress and Acknowledge Success!

  • Track practice change (purchasing, tune-up and O&M, design and construction, capital upgrades, use of life-cycle costing). Use the Energy Practice Checklist (see Step 1) to reassess periodically. Get feedback from SEMP implementers on what is/isn't working and why.
  • Track energy savings. Track through your energy management system and re-benchmark yearly using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (see Step 1) and compare to your original score.
  • Track other impacts like reduced occupant complaints, positive press coverage, positive comments from staff. Even if anecdotal, hospital leaders will pay attention.
  • Regularly report progress to executives.
  • Acknowledge, reward, and publicize successes. See Staff and Public Awareness tools in Step 5.
