The Barber Park recreation facility along the Boise River is another innovative project from the Ada County Parks and Recreation Department. This LEED building uses a variety of integrated strategies including daylighting and external shading, high insulation values combine with high performance windows, and careful space considerations to allow large areas to be unconditioned due to low use in the winter months.
This office building represents a successful beginning to implementation of the County’s 50-year Master Plan for reclamation of this property. Features include: integrated systems along with use of raised floor system, decreased cooling requirements by an estimated 40%, and total building energy by about 25%; operable windows; daylighting; easily re-configured raised floor/diffuser system, and modular furnishings.
The North Mall Office Building was designed as a pilot project to demonstrate former Governor John Kitzhaber's Executive Order for "Development of a State Strategy Promoting Sustainability in Internal State Government." Over a three-year period, team members used a variety of innovative decision-making and design and construction approaches to build an attractive, affordable and enduring new state facility.
