Building Operator Certification in the Northwest
The average building could cut electricity use by 15 percent or more if building operators used energy efficiency procedures and tools more effectively. Tools and procedures change with the times. A Building Operator Certification course can bring experienced operators up to speed and provide a solid foundation for new operators.
Those taking the course learn about operating and maintenance practices that improve equipment performance, extend equipment life, improve the quality of the indoor environment and enhance comfort for occupants.
The course has a proven track record in producing results. One BOC graduate who operates a public building in Idaho was able to save taxpayers $94,000 in the year following training. Overall, more than 90 percent of BOC-course graduates and their supervisors say they saved energy and money, and improved comfort. (See BOC Graduate profile.)
Building Operator Certification is recognized and valued by building owners and employers across the region and nationally.
Participants take a seven-course curriculum, complete tests and demonstrate their newly gained knowledge by completing specific projects. Upon successful completion they receive Building Operator Certification from the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council in Oregon and Washington, and the Northwest Building Operators Association in Idaho and Montana.
